GraphicConverter 9 App Reviews

A wonderful program with excellent support

A wonderful program. Ive used it since the old "PowerMac G3" days, and its never disappointed. When I had an occasional problem with the latest version, my email to their Support was answered within hours ( on a weekend), and the problem solved. I have recommended Graphic Converter to friends and family over the years, and expect to continue to do so.

An essential utility to convert between file formats

Over the years, this app grown to have more features and tools and open more file formats. For me, if Photoshop can’t open a file, GraphicConverter is my go-to tool. With its built-in editing tools, it’s now a pretty decent image editor as well. Easy automation lets you easily batch process multiple images. Buy it to open all of those obscure, unsupported 1990’s format images. You’ll find it’s now much more powerful and useful than that. =M=

It’s getting better, but still VERY CONFUSING

For less I could buy Pixelmator and probably get similar results. I purchased this as an alternative to Aperture, which is gone now, but months later I still have issues getting the navigation right. Developer keeps improving the software, but it is still very unfriendly:(

Love how it handles SVG files

I’ve been using GraphicConverter for many years. I also have the full Adobe Creative Suite with Photoshop, but for converting graphic formats and some basic editing, it really is hard to beat GraphicConverter. I see some people here comlained it is a bit difficult to use. But if you’re familiar with graphical editors, it really is pretty simple and no where near as complicated as say Photoshop. In particular I like that it handles SVG files that I now need for FileMaker layouts.

Works well, but bloated and not well documented

GraphicConverter 9 has several features to recommend it. I use it mostly because of its complete metadata handling directly in image files. That’s nice. It is quite a complex beast, though. It has the “kitchen sink”, and you’ll feel it when you use it. I would recommend this for someone who doesn’t mind spending time experimenting with features and figuring out a suitable workflow. It also requires regular use, or you’ll forget how to do things and have to start all over. I wouldn’t recommend it for people who want something quick or simple. This isn’t that product.

Swiss Army Knife of Graphics, Just Keeps Getting Better

Excellent customer support too. If you can’t figure out how to do something, send an email and within a day, you’ll get a reply from Thorsten himself. If it can’t be done, he’ll try to add that feature. My only advice would be to skip the App Store version and download it directly from Lemke Software. The program is a lot more functional without the burden of sandboxing.

Don’t Buy from the AppStore

This is a GREAT App, I’ve used it for many decades, but go directly to developer and buy. The AppStore is slow to release updates due the lengthy and apparenlty understaffed review process. It’s not worth the frustration to buy from the AppStore. This is a powerful but sometimes frustrating application to use. The user interface takes a little getting use to for some of the modules. Can’t say enough about he support Thorsten Lemke has provided over the years

A 5, but not from the App Store

I have used GraphicConverter since its earliest iterations and have always found it simple and reliable, until I thoughtlessly updated from the App Store. (It has gotten slightly more complicated as numerous new features have been added to accommodate new file types and new approaches to graphics, but not difficult to use.) Via the App Store some functions (saving as SVG, for example) are disabled, for reasons beyond my undrstanding — something to do with playing in the OSX sandbox, I am told! When I brought my problem to Thorsten Lemke’s attention on a Sunday afternoon, California time, he had a reply back to me from Germany before midnight the same day, and had replaced my App-Store App via a direct download link from his site. Wir danken Dir, Thorsten!

Improved help system

Graphic Converter keeps getting better and better with a new multi-language help system. It has always been the Swiss Army Knife of image editing, with some new features and tools. Its big strength, fast & simple batch conversion, is still fantastic with lots of sizing options built in and best of all, it still likes .PICT files!

converts almost any format to almost any other format

GraphicConverter 9 can open images that other programs can’t. Then simply Save As in the format you need, and your favorite image editing program can open it. I use GraphicConverter in making high-resolution topographic hiking maps. It also downloads picrtures from my digital camera.

Just in case you havent notice

In addition to being the long-time go-to app for format conversion, this is now, essentially, a near replacement for Adobe Photoshop the way it used to be before they decided to self-destruct by too frequent planned obsolescence and then going to cloudland exclusively. If you are looking for iOS9 slick UI, move on, but if you need rock-solid functionality for both import/export and photoediting, look no farther than here.

Still the best image editor for the mac

This is the ‘goto’ image editor. Nothing else has this many features for the cost. Opens almost anything. Worth the cost.

Does exactly what it says.

GraphicConverter has been around forever. It’s rock-solid, reliable, and does exactly what it says it does. Want to take 500 TIFF files, turn them all into low-res jpg and high-res png files for web use, scale them, flip them horizontally, and rename them appropriately? Done. Do you need to do the same with a bunch of old Apple IIGS graphics files you got from a random floppy disk? Easy. Import 128 images from an old defunct camera format and export them as Nokia telephone logos? No problem. If you need a Photoshop replacement, I’d go with Pixelmator instead. If you need a workhorse that knows the difference between bicubic interpolation and box scaling, this will be your go-to program.

Wonderful App, Wonderful Support

I have been using this app (or program, as we called it in the past) since version 2. The app gets better with each version, but the support stays the same: Tip-Top Excellent!

Great Graphics Tool

I really like Graphics Converter, and have been using it for years. I don’t use it very often, but when I do it always saves me lots of time and effort. The interface is very easy to learn and remember. Everyone composing text documents or presentations containing graphic images will find Graphic Converter a great tool to have available. The support from Lemke Software Gmbh is excellent.

gold standard

This is a great app. I use it primarily to convert formats. Recently an old PCD file (Kodak PhotoCD format), which I wanted to convert to TIF, wouldn’t open in CS6. Right back to trusty GC which keeps getting better in ease of use. It has fine grained under the hood adjustments, if you know about that stuff. So GC caters to the expert making robust adjustments, and those who need basic options when converting files. Thorsten Lemke, the developer, always responds to questions - very helpful. Worth noting: because of restrictions Apple places on developers - out of security concerns, not to be user unfriendly - but GC downloaded from Thorsten’s site has more functionality than the version here; such as the above mentioned PCD format.

Legacy User since first release 1992, I may have beta tested it earlier.

Thorsten Lemke allowed me to get new versions as upgrades for many, many years. Now I pay with gratitud. GC is my go to app for any graphic project I work on. There’s nothing that compares with this app, it’s like an old friend that seldom didappointed me never let me down. Thanks to the people at Lemke for keeping GC always current with standards and trends of working world and for the attention you’ve paid to end users like me. Did I mention their support? Second to none.

I really like it

I am a professor and I give presentations (or talks as we call them) almost all the time. I have been using Graphics Converter for making my graphics pieces for my presentations for years now. Then I decided it was time to buy the software. In all these years, I have never had a file that Graphics Converter could not handle. This is a great program. Also, Mr Lemke is very helpful. I once had an issue that the app store version would not run and I was helped out quickly. I think it was even over a weekend. Danke schoen, Herr Lemke. A nifty feature: when saving jpg and choosing the compression rate, it shows you the expected file size. I once wrote reference letters for a student and had to upload it to a website. The file size was limited and so I had to scale the file down and compress. It was nice to have instant feedback about the compression of the file right there. Another cool feature is the magic wand tool though it took me years to figure out exactly what it did, but that was my fault.

Great software

I’ve been using GraphicConverter for quite a while. I can’t remember which version I started with, it’s been so long. I haven’t found anything that I can’t do with GraphicConverter. Support from Mr Lemke is always quick and spot-on.

Very useful tools - excellent help.

I have had software from Lemkesoft for a while - Graphics Converter, CADintosh - since about 2005. They all perform very well. Like Anton314 (another reviewer) - I am also a Professor and I have been using Graphics Converter to convert vidoes into still shots for my Physics class. This way the students can calculate velocities of objects (balls and carts) to prove to themselves that gravity is the same - independent of mass - or that momentum is conserved when two carts collide on an air track. Also - again like Anton314 - I had a problem with the App store version of Graphics Converter - Thorsten Lemke helped me solve it in a few minutes - on a Sunday no less. (He has helped me several times - so this is not a fluke.)
