GraphicConverter 9 App Reviews

Great App, Great Support, Awesome Value!

I’ve been a GC user since ’93 (many versions ago). GC is my go-to app for viewing the many family photos (JPEG’s) that I have sorted in folders by month and year. It is great for browsing, sorting, and editing. Thorstem Lemke’s support of this app is excellent. Over the years, I have emailed feature requests, bug reports, and general troubleshooting questions and he is always quick to respond. Although I also have and use Photoshop CS6 and Aperture, I always come back to GC because it is fast, stable, and has many very useful features. I can quickly browse, sort, and rename a bunch of mixed image files, even PDF’s. I have set my finder prefs such that image files (JPG’s, PNG’s, GIF’s, etc) open in Graphic Converter when double clicked. In short, this is probably the best value and one of the most useful apps I have used on my mac over the last 20 years!

Almost Perfect

I have used GC since it was first included with Macs. It has served my needs extraordinarily well. Most fixes are much quicker than in other programs and without a steep learning curve. The slideshow capabilities have been a real lifesaver, and the ability to sort photos into different folders has made my life much more pleasant, as I often need to assign sports pictures from one shoot to 6 or 8 different folders. This can be accomplished in one pass, which is very handy. The included documentation is extensive and a printed manual is available at a very reasonable cost. There is a user’s group that is full of knowledgeable people eager to help. The price is really unbeatable for the capabilities, and I have only just scratched the surface. Amazingly, the developer is just an email away and will often directly analyze a problematic image if you will provide a sample. Updates to the program are nearly continuous, and deal with any bugs and such as they are reported. I can’t even think of what I would ask more of this program or the developer.

Amazing Swiss Army knife for pictures!

This application has been getting better and better with every version. I’ve used it since version 4 (ages and a half ago) and I never hesitated to upgraded when a new version came out. This version 9 remains easy to use while providing a number of power tools no other app seems to match. Batch conversion, deep-color management, conversion from obscure format no app wanted to open for me on a Mac. It’s the only app I could find that could open and manage images I work with from scientific equipment. I couldn’t live without it! I love the new modernized UI too. All my image editing tools are now easy to find and use. Really a must have app from a very responsive and helpful developer.

AWFUL!!!!!

Whatever you do, DO NOT BUY THIS UPGRADE!!!!!!! The memory management is TERRIBLE. It crashes, it’s slow - basically, this needs to be thoroughly rewritten before it can be used.

Couldnt live without it!

I purchased GraphicConverter years ago, back when it was shareware, and I used it all the time. When the pricing model changed, I tried to put off buying it again. But I finally gave in - and, boy, am I glad I did! How did I think I could get along without this? I had heard some complaints about the developer being unresponsive to requests for support, but my experience has been the complete opposite. I had a minor issue come up and, with a few emails back and forth, had it resolved in less than 24 hours. Impressive, especially when you consider the 9 hour difference in time zones! Like one of the other reviewers said, this is about as close to a "Swiss Army Knife" as a piece of software can get.

A Classic

GC is the classic Mac graphics editor. It’s been around since before Mac OS X and is still going strong — with significant improvements year after year. I’m an app developer and I use GC to adjust graphics for icons, buttons, etc… I’ve tried other image editors, but GC is the only tool I’ve tried which doesn’t screw up the alpha channel when I make changes.

Not so good image browsing

I edit pictures on the network drive and this app disappoints me, I constantly find myself using other apps to get things done that this app should do without a problem. When browsing files on the SMB shares, the app freezes up my Mac pro to the point its not possible to switch to other apps and I have very fast machine. Also services option, in Finder, does not work as expected. While developers responded quickly, the problem is not solved, even in an updated version. Right now just keeping it as backup app to open unsupported files.

Graphic Converter 9

I have used Graphic converter for a lot of years for a number of different types of needs. It has always functioned extremely well. Support from Lemke is fast and effective. Graphic Converter 9 is a great package.

Fabulous App & Developer, one small caveat

GraphicConverter is outstanding in every respect and has been for the decade or more in which I’ve been using it. I barely tap into (or even understand) its many features, but for those few that I do, it is well worth the price. And if I do need to learn more, there is an excellent series of online tutorials to guide me. GraphicConverter’s developer, Thorsten Lemke, sets a world-class standard for availability, documentation and customer support. Email him with a problem and he typically responds the same day with the fix. In fact, he did so a few weeks ago, which brings me to the one small caveat. The App Store version of GC9, in adhering to Apple’s safety standards, restricts those locations in which documents can be saved. Though I am generally happy with my App Store purchases, in this case, having been a long-time user, I found those restrictions to be a bit too much. I emailed Mr. Lemke about my issue and he responded back almost immediately, telling me to send him a copy of my App Store receipt, which I did. Within the hour, he emailed me a license for the (non App Store) version on his website, and I was back in business. If I could give him and GC9 ten stars, I would. It’s that good.

Indispensable

I started using GraphicConverter in 2005, to prepare several hundred illustrations for a book (I’d taken screenshots in PDF, the publisher wanted BMP). GraphicConverter had faithful conversions, and was easy to automate. I’ve had it for years before. I am using it today. As a practical matter, there is nothing else.

Best App for Batch Work

I had been casting around for something to do batch adjustments of third party scans. Several disappointments with other software brought me around last year to GraphicConverter. It is not cheap, but it does a lot more than the cheap apps, things that I had not been looking for but, after trying them, found useful. The one thing this application could use is an overhaul of the user interface. It needs to be streamlined so that functions and controls are easy to find and quick to implement. I realize that the software has a long history, and that it might be easier to start a redesign from scratch. So be it; I would gladly pay again.

For more than a decade, the premier Mac Graphics Program!

GraphicConverter 9 is an amazing program. Full-featured and bug-free. And support from Lemke Software is top-notch. Especially gratifying is their policy of offering a free upgrade from the GraphicConverter version sold here at the Mac App Store to the full-featured version available on the GraphicConverter web site. All that is needed to take advantage of this offer is to email Lemke Software a copy of your Mac Store receipt for the purchase of GraphicConverter. Lemke then replies with a software license for the full version. Here’s proof of Lemke’s prompt customer service: I emailed my Mac Store receipt to them yesterday (Thursday, Oct. 09, 2014) at 2:55PM (EST). Lemke replied and sent me my new software license 21 minutes later! (Thursday, Oct. 09 at 3:16PM EST). Amazing considering that Lemke is located in Germany!

I know I have the tool here, I just have to find it...

Graphic Converter has a well deserved reputation as the swiss army knife of image manipulation. Not one of those little keychain swiss army knives, but one of those big fat ones that requires its own pocket in your backpack. The only shortcoming in my experience is that, like a swiss army knife, you need to try opening each blade to look at it and are left wondering what half of them are used for. This tool could use a serious UI/UX pass, and much, much better documentation… I’m sure I’ve only used the smallest fraction of its capabilities because I can’t find the rest. That said, my workflow is typically “try Preview, then try Graphic Converter”.

Excellent

Excellent product and awesome support!

Reliable and versatile

I have been using this program from day one (decades ago), and it never let me (or my customers) down. However, I felt that I had to convert my Mac App Store to a regular license in order to get updates not only timelier, but also versions of the software that more features than Apple’s app store would allow. Luckily, the license change is free. Great customer service.

How many features can one app have?

I’ve yet to run into a graphics related task that GraphicConverter can’t handle. I’ve used it for 10+ years and am so glad I bought it again on the App store to promote development. Great work, great support too!

One of My Favorite Apps Ever

Graphic Converter is one of the niftiest little apps I’ve ever used. I have been using this program to open my photos for many years and there is nothing quite like it. I also want to say the customer service is fantastic too and the program’s author is quick to respond to any issues you encounter. This is a “must-have” app for Mac users.

No hesitation - handles everything you throw at it

Top-rate support from the developer. Frequent updates, easy updating process and upgrading. Strong compatibility. Ease. Smooth. Flawless graphic rendering.

Couldn’t do without GC

Ive used Graphic Converter since the program was first introduced years back. The continued upgrading keeps it up to date and useful. Ive been a Mac user since 1984 and the continued support for the product rises above other developers. GC enables me to manage photos and graphics quickly and efficiently. I would be lost without it.

I’ve owned this app for 20 years and still use it almost every day.

There’s a reason they call this the “Swiss Army knife” of image manipulation. I first bought GraphicConverter in 1995 and I’ve been using it ever since, almost every day. Now it’s at version 9.5. It has always been my go-to app for all sorts of image manipulation, particularly working with screen shots, but also photographs. It is quick and accurate for scaling down large images to a precise size, and for converting other formats to JPEG, for instance. It gives me precise control over compression settings, to reduce image size for emailing and uploading, while giving the highest-quality image scaling and compression with live previews of the results. It is very easy to use and its batch-processing workflows are powerful and flexible. After all these years, I still haven’t found another app that does so many things so well. I use other image manipulation and photo apps, but GraphicConverter remains an important part of my graphics toolbox and I use it more than any other program.
